Some things that I love...

Before we run off to the lake again, I thought I'd share a few items that I love...

 

Of course I love the two jokers hiding behind the books but I wanted to say you must go to the Reading Reptile in Brookside.  The shop is inspiring, the selection is amazing, and the owners are brilliant.  It is a number one go-to.  Also, on most Friday evenings, they set a projector and play wonderful old films.  Crackly, old-fashioned fun!

 

Please check out Anna Beckman's art and calligraphy.  She is fabulous.  I so wish I could translate her bulletin boards into a room.  I love layers of color and texture and stories that just swim around.  I think a room should have something fun or interesting to look at everywhere you turn.

 

Every room beautifully photographed on this site is an inspiration.  Do yourself a favor and take a look.  I ran into this picture while browsing Laissezfaire. 

I was also a HUGE fan of Domino magazine.  It was the only design magazine I've found that followed my same aesthetic.  I am still searching for a replacement.  Any suggestions? 

Check out the cute little owls I put on etsy.  They will be so hard to part with!

viva la vida

Coldplay was a fantastic show...as expected.  Our aisle seats gave me a perfect view as the guys ran through the crowd.  They went on to do a killer cover of Billie Jean not so very far away from this little lady.  We were also able to gather a big handful of butterflies for Miss Sophia.  She was thrilled.  She and Oliver went to the June show in Omaha and had a blast.  They are both serious Coldplay fans and were not too happy that this concert was just a party for two.  (They couldn't be too upset though.  They spent the weekend at the lake.)

 

More to share about the shop but my computer is acting screwy.

Hooray!

And so it has begun.  You can now go to Nellie Loves Vintage to check out my newly opened shop.  There are only a few items for sale right now but I'll get a lot more up Sunday evening.  I am really excited and a little nervous. 

We're off to St. Louis to see Coldplay!

A wow and some things you really must check out...

This photo from the Sartorialist is just wonderful.  I highly recommend checking out his blog. Leave it to those French ladies!

My dress addiction got the better of me again today.  I found another beautiful shirtwaist style dress and was forced to snatch it up.  It is a wonderful tan plaid with gold thread running through it.  I think more ladies should turn to dresses.  What could be easier than throwing your outfit on in one step?  I was checking out Casey's Musings this evening and found a lovely piece (and fun photos) on the perfect shirtwaist dress. Such a flattering style!

Hmmm...what else?  My sweetie is out of town so there was no wogging for me this evening.  Instead I turned to a little Back 2 Bollywood.  That did the job and it was fun stuff.  

I must, must, must get to the post office tomorrow to find out more about shipping.  No more crying wolf.

Just a few goodies

I'm feeling pretty good.  I went for a lovely wog (walk/jog) this evening and so enjoyed the fall weather.  I love living in an old neighborhood with huge trees, front porches, real gaslights, and small yards filled to overflowing with grandma plants. 

We spent last weekend at the lake with our friends the Algers.  We had such a great time with tons of floating and Shasta...and maybe a few Coors.  

 We look forward to our next trip!

 

 

  

Roll ball, roll

I am one step closer to actually getting my shop up and running.  Oliver and I did some major thrifting today with such satisfying rewards...we scored the most beautiful finds.  We also put together and photographed several bundles.  There are still so many items I'm excited reveal!  So here's a sneak peek at a few treasures that will be in my Etsy shop.

Macrame is coming back with a vengeance.  Unfortunately, I haven't found any while out thrifting.  My MIL made the most amazing macrame skeleton many years ago.  I'll have to put a picture up.  It's impressive.

That's it for tonight.  Tomorrow I plan to photograph some vignettes and figure out pricing and shipping.

New pics and pixies too

Our house is slowly getting back to normal after the big pixie invasion Saturday.  Sophia had a magical party and all 20 (!) kids had a great time. 

 

Sophia and Oliver were very helpful with decorating.

 

Fairies and sweets.

Oliver and I went on a quick treasure hunt this morning and turned up one of my favorite purchases yet.

 

This beautiful, aqua dish rack was just screaming for a home.  Lucky for me, it fits perfectly in the built-in cabinet in my little breakfast nook.  I immediately brought it home and loaded it with some of my grandmother's china.

So speaking of my grandma, I've come up with a name for my Etsy shop.  "Nellie Loves Vintage".  Nellie was my grandma's name (though she went by Marlene), and it has the most nostalgic feel.  It's also a lot catchier than Amy.  I haven't completely settled, but that's what I'm leaning towards.  My goal is to be up and running within the next couple days.

Birthday Wishes

Today is my Dad's 53rd birthday! 

 

He and Keith were in line to ride the teacups in Disney World.

I am one lucky girl because my dad has always been the most loving and involved father and Papa.  We sure love him.  He is also an incredible artist and craftsman.  Over the years I have been gifted some beautiful pieces of furniture.

 

This cedar chest holds mountains of sweaters.

Less than two days remain

Oliver and I spent the better part of the day working in the backyard.  The summer heat left our landscaping neglected, leggy, and withered.  Nothing like a day of sweating and pulling weeds to bring the joy back to gardening.

Party prep is moving right along.  I'll be ready to transform our home into a pixie wonderland sometime tomorrow.  I was searching for a low-cost but inventive, stand-out decoration for the party and found loads of yarn on sale at Hobby Lobby.  

 

I wrapped small fallen branches and large styrofoam balls in this great fuzzy yarn.  The effect is so mossy and almost ethereal. 

So what's on my plate tomorrow?  Some serious cleaning, birthday cake construction (I am certainly no cake decorator), coming up with games (yeah!!! Something I love!), and transforming the house into Pixie Hollow.  Looks like a satisfying day.
