I am really, really pleased with the results of my latest t-shirt experiment. It was the easiest project of all!
Here's a reminder of what the t-shirt looked like before. I could go camping in this thing!
I started much the same way that I did with the black tunic. I stitched straight up both sides but this time I kept the body a little fuller. Also, I left the arm holes much wider for a more dramatic sleeve. I angled my stitch from the new arm hole to the bottom corner of the existing sleeve and then trimmed all the excess. Remember to save your scraps!
I trimmed off the existing hem on the bottom and the collar. After taking this pic, I decided I wasn't wild about the neckline so I rounded it out a bit and cut a little more off the sleeves to make them a bit more exaggerated.
I took the long scraps and stitched them together into a rough belt. I really like how pieced together it looks. I would have loved for it to double around but once will have to be enough.
In all, this top probably took me 15 minutes of actual cutting and sewing time and cost a whopping $2. Not bad. So there you have it. Big shirt upcycle number three.
And the moral of the story? Before you get rid of those obnoxious, too large, or damaged t-shirts, see what you can make of them. You can at least cut some rosettes out of them.
See you tomorrow,
amy
